The main award, Peace Image of the Year 2018, named after the 1911 Nobel Peace Laureate, Austrian Alfred Hermann Fried, and worth 10 000 euros, went to California-born photojournalist Anna Boyiazis for her photo series about the Panje project: Girls on the island of Zanzibar, which is part of Tanzania and dominated by Islamic rules, claim the right to disregard the ban on women swimming. The jury commended Boyiazis’ photo report for showing, in a small story, something very big: the desire for freedom and the self-assertion of women. The award was presented jointly by the President of the Austrian National Council, Wolfgang Sobotka, and sponsors Silvia Lammerhuber of Edition Lammerhuber and Hansjörg Hosp of Megaboard.

September 2018 – Im Österreichischen Parlament wurden am Abend zum sechsten Mal die Gewinner des internationalen Fotowettbewerbs für das beste Bild vom Frieden ausgezeichnet. Der nach dem österreichischen Friedensnobelpreisträger 1911, Alfred Hermann Fried, benannte und mit 10 000 Euro dotierte Hauptpreis Peace Image of the Year 2018 ging an die in Kalifornien geborene Fotojournalistin Anna Boyiazis für ihre Fotoserie über das Projekt Panje, mit dem sich Mädchen auf der zu Tansania gehörenden, islamisch geprägten Insel Sansibar das Recht herausnehmen, sich über das für Frauen geltende Schwimmverbot hinwegzusetzen. Die Jury lobte, dass Boyiazis Fotoreportage an einer kleinen Geschichte etwas ganz Großes zeige: den Freiheitswillen und die Selbstbehauptung von Frauen. Übergeben wurde der Preis vom Präsidenten des Österreichischen Nationalrates, Wolfgang Sobotka, gemeinsam mit den Sponsoren Silvia Lammerhuber vom Verlag Edition Lammerhuber und Hansjörg Hosp von Megaboard.

The main prize, worth 10 000 euros, went to Sweden-based Cletus Nelson Nwadike, who had left his native Nigeria where a civil war was raging that cost two million lives. In his photo essay Nwadike celebrates freedom from violence and the gift of being allowed to live in peace.

Der nach dem österreichischen Friedensnobelpreisträger 1911 Alfred Hermann Fried benannte und mit 10.000 Euro dotierte Hauptpreis ging an den in Schweden lebenden Cletus Nelson Nwadike, der einst sein Heimatland Nigeria verließ, in dem ein Bürgerkrieg mit zwei Millionen Toten gewütet hatte. In einem Foto-Essay feiert Nwadike die Befreiung von Gewalt und das Glück, in Frieden leben zu dürfen.

In his speech Lois Lammerhuber took the opportunity to announce that Ms Waris Dirie (Desert Flower Foundation) had agreed to join the Alfred Fried Photography Award jury and would take on the patronage for the so-called „Children Call“ planned for 2017, the "Children Peace Image of the Year".

The award is named after Austrian Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Alfred Fried, with the main prize worth 10 000 euros. It went to German photographer Helena Schätzle for "Devoted to Life", a portrait series of holocaust survivors in Israel. The international jury praised Schätzle’s sensitive approach to “capture late moments of consolation, tenderness and intimacy in the lives of those who have been stalked by a horrific history, late moments of happiness in a traumatized life after survival”.

Der nach dem österreichischen Friedensnobelpreis­träger 1911 Alfred Fried benannte und mit 10.000 Euro dotierte Hauptpreis ging an die deutsche Fotografin Helena Schätzle für eine in Israel entstandene Porträtreihe von Holocaust-Überlebenden. Auf sensible Weise habe Schätzle „späte Momente von Trost, Zärtlichkeit und Intimität im Leben jener eingefangen, die von einer schrecklichen Geschichte verfolgt worden sind, späte Momente des Glücks in einem traumatisierten Leben nach dem Überleben“, hieß es in der Begründung der internationalen Jury.

Der 2016 zum vierten mal abgehaltene und international renommierte Fotowettbewerb erhielt heuer 16.883 Fotografien aus 127 Ländern. Die meisten Einreichungen kamen aus Indien, Deutschland, Russland, USA und Brasilien. Gegenüber 2015 – als 14.115 Bilder aus 121 Ländern eingereicht wurden – ist das eine Steigerung um 2.768 Fotos oder ca 20%.
Zur Zeit bewertet die internationale Jury die Einreichungen. Die Shortlist wird am 4. The prestigious award, which is held 2016 the fourth time, received 16,833 photographs from 127 countries. Most entries came from India followed by Germany, Russia, USA and Brazil. Compared to 2016 with 14,115 images from 121 countries this is a rise of 2,768 photographs or 20%.
At the moment the international jury is reviewing the entries.
