KAMPALA, UGANDA – Shafik Ssebuuma (24) plays in the Amputee Football team since 2018.

When Shakif was a three year old child he was injected with an expired drug after his father took him to the hospital with fever. This lead to amputation of his leg. Shakif: “After the amputation, my father rejected me. We had to leave his home.”

“Whenever I joined kids playing, all the attention would turn to me. All of this unwanted attention plus my dad who rejected me, it made me feel like a misfit.”

When Shakif heard of Amputee Football he felt like this was the game he wanted to play and show people his abilities. Shakif: “When people see me running on streets and playing football, their negative thoughts change to positivity. And they start discussing our special abilities.”
