Invisible Threads: Portraits and Stories of Our Global Neighbors
Invisible Threads is a portrait and narrative series that offers an intimate look into the lives of immigrants who have made Cape Cod their home. Through collaborative portraits and deeply personal interviews, the project reveals the layered experiences of individuals and families who have journeyed from around the world seeking safety, opportunity, and belonging.
While Cape Cod is often seen as a summer destination, beneath its surface is a complex web of migration stories that remain largely unseen. These collaborative portraits—crafted using story-driven details and complex lighting setups—capture people at home, at work, and with loved ones. Each image is designed to reflect the emotional depth and narrative arc of the subject‘s journey, offering a visual expression of resilience, identity, and hope.
The project spans stories from Haiti, Indonesia, Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ukraine, Costa Rica, and beyond, and addresses themes of displacement, cultural preservation, racism, reinvention, and generational change. By allowing participants to shape their own narratives, Invisible Threads centers dignity and authenticity above all.
The portraits are accompanied by in-depth captions drawn from extensive interviews. These narratives give voice to personal histories and illuminate the shared human desire for safety, community, and the ability to thrive.
The series will be exhibited at the Cape Cod Museum of Art from August–November 2025, alongside a forthcoming short documentary.
