The Children Peace Image of the Year Award 2018 received 847 images!

The call for children under the age of 14 under the umbrella of human rights activist Waries Dirie and Jan Schmolling, managing director of Deutscher Jugendfotopreis, was answered in 137 countries. 1.960 photographs have been submitted. Most images have been sent from Ukraine, Romania, Czech Republic, Poland, Serbia and Germany.

In an anonymous voting process the international jury voted for the Children Peace Image of the Year and created a shortlist of 22 entries.
The winner of the Children Peace Image of the Year was immediately informed and invited to travel to Vienna to attend the Alfred Fried Photography Award 2018 ceremony on 20 September 2018.
The winning image will be on display for one year at the Austrian Parliament and will be included in the permanent art collection of the Austrian Parliament. The winner will receive € 1.000.
The winning image will be publicly announced on 21 September 2018.

A peace of ice-cream
An ice-cream together tastes of peace and joy... On the photo: Fabian (8) and Ruben (8), brothers of Flaminia (11) and Annelie (11), respectively, who had the idea and took the picture. All four children attend the German School of Rome (Deutsche Schule Rom). Annelie and Flaminia heard of the Award from their art teacher. It was a great opportunity for all of them to talk about peace, but also to learn about photography and to deal with the realization of a project...

Daydreaming
Peace is a state of being. A feeling of love, freedom, happiness. Peace can often be felt when one is all alone, resting in the ideal location. In this photo we can certainly detect the relaxing vibe caused by a quiet car ride surrounded by winter whiteness. What a peaceful moment.

Peaceful growing
I was visiting the only grey seal colony in Germany at Helgoland island in the North Sea with my grandpa in January 2015. It was so cold and windy. I was lucky to observe the kiss of a cub to her mother - a peaceful moment in a harsh environment.

Was ist für mich Frieden?
After games, stories, picture books and conversations about peace, six nursery children at the Lower Austrian Landeskindergarten Sitzenberg, aged 5-6 years, set out with a camera and photographed what peace meant for them. We then looked at these photos together and each child was allowed to find a suitable title for his or her photograph.
