When you’re 66, ….

... life really begins. When you're 66 you have fun living.

In 1978, singer Udo Jürgens stormed the German charts with this song. Is this still the case? How is life at an older age in Germany today?

Germany is one of the states with the oldest inhabitants - and life expectancy continues to rise. Citizens between 60 and over 80 years make up more than a third of the total German population. Due to better health care and less physically demanding occupations, this period of life can usually be spent more actively than in the 1970s, when the song came to life. Over a period of almost three years, I have photographically investigated how retirees in Germany live their lives.
